material study zine

“We teach girls shame. We make them feel as though being born female, they are already guilty of something.” This is a quote from Chimamanda Ngozi, Nigerian writer of novels, short stories, and nonfiction. After experimentation with materials, I landed on females as my subject. I followed specific steps beginning with writing Ngozi’s words on females’ faces, followed by creating folds between the photos I gathered. This created a distortion between women.
